Through this course students develop a good grasp of fundamental Latin grammar that enables them to read simple stories and compose simple paragraphs. The Latin readings for this course are adapted from ancient history and mythology and provide valuable insight into the Ancient Roman world. Students in this course work intensely on nouns, adjectives and verbs. They also study the first, second and third declension nouns in all six cases. In addition, students learn to form the six tenses of Latin verbs in the active voice for all four conjugations.
