Music is often described as a universal language because it exists in all cultures. This course approaches music from a global perspective. In this course students will become acquainted with cultural influences on music while exploring the common human ideas that music addresses. They will analyze the musical traditions of Western Europe, Asia, India, Africa, Latin America, South America, and the United States. Students will also explore the history and development of modern Western music, including featured composers from each time period.
